Thermal Sciences and Engineering

Objective

Humanity depends on energy to prosper. Energy is fundamental for our lives. The sources of energy are very diverse, from the fossil fuels, to the renewable sources. The development of new forms of harvesting, conversion, transport, storage and efficient utilization are essential for human development.

The Engineering and Thermal Sciences Area, uniting knowledge from Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat and Mass Transfer as well as from their application areas, has dedicated efforts to the proper understanding of basic phenomena, the development of physical and mathematical models, the development of analytical and numerical solutions, as well as,  experimental methods, devices and innovative prototypes, aimed to solve both the fundamental and applied problems, with a focus on the engineering science as well as the industrial applications.
